Azim Miah - Director & Editor Human-First Stories | Surreal Visuals

About

I am a British Bangladeshi director and creative based in Northampton, specialising in cinematic, story-led commercial work with emotional impact. I combine a strong visual identity with a practical understanding of strategy, logistics and delivery, shaped by a background in entrepreneurship and hands-on production.

I direct high-end commercials, films and music videos with crews of up to fifty people, working across concept development, directing and post-production. My approach blends bold, atmospheric storytelling with authenticity, allowing brands and artists to connect with audiences on a deeper emotional level.

My commercial work includes campaigns for global brands such as Hyundai and Lucky Saint, where I have delivered visually striking content that balances narrative identity with clear brand objectives. I am equally confident leading large-scale productions or working lean and efficiently on smaller budgets, adapting my visual direction to the needs of each project.

I also operate as a director-editor when required, creating faster turnaround, stronger creative continuity and cost-effective production solutions. My filmmaking is grounded in an experimental background and informed by mental health-led storytelling, giving commercial projects a distinctive emotional edge and sense of humanity.

My aim is to create work that performs globally while remaining rooted in truth: visually ambitious, emotionally driven stories that stay with people.

Accolades and Recognition:

  • Winner: Best Low Budget Europe Music Video (2025): This award for "Bone Collector" validates my ability to achieve industrial-scale results on independent margins. By leading a cast and crew of fifty and leveraging high-end technical workflows in Northampton, I out-produced traditional budgets to deliver a visually ambitious, high-fidelity production.
  • Nominated: Best Music Video, Forward Film and Television Festival (2025): Being nominated in a competitive field validates the high-end technical standards I have cultivated in Northampton. It proves my visual language is as competitive in professional commercial spaces as it is in narrative ones.
  • Official Selection: Short Stack (2025): This selection represents vital peer validation within Broadway Cinema, the lead organisation for Film Hub Midlands and the physical home of the BFI NETWORK Midlands team.
  • Winner: Best Picture, 72 Hour Short Film Challenge (2021): A testament to my early technical discipline and the ability to execute a compelling narrative under extreme, high-pressure time constraints.
